(Port) Wine of the month March 2022: Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port 2018
Why should one purchase Vintage Port from recent years after the fantastic trilogy of 2015, 2016 and 2017, if they most probably are not as structured as the preceding ones? Well Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port 2018 answers this when you pop the cork. The only problem of this Port are Crasto’s Douro DOCs, because Maria Teresa and Vinha da Ponte are receiving much of Crasto’s credit and do not leave enough for the Ports: Deep violet reflections in the almost black colour. Cherry, cassis, sweet raspberry and coffee on the nose, some floral hints, white pepper and tobacco in the background. Fully balanced, but very complex palate with excellent acidity and a silky tannic structure. Redberry fruits, coffee and cherry. Long aftertaste. 18/20
